Drone Building Inspection Services in Sydney

Facade, roof, and waterproofing inspections captured by commercial drone. Documented and delivered same-day. No scaffolding. No rope access.

What Drone Building Inspections Cover

Drone building inspections provide a detailed visual record of a building's exterior condition without the cost and logistics of traditional access methods. At RKOps, we use commercial-grade drones to inspect facades, roofs, and waterproofing membranes across residential and commercial buildings in Sydney.

Every inspection produces documentation that engineering consultants, builders, and strata managers can use directly. We are not delivering raw drone footage. We deliver formatted photo registers and defect schedules, referenced by location and ready for your reports.

Facade Inspections

Drone facade inspections capture high-resolution imagery of every elevation. We document cracking, spalling, sealant deterioration, render defects, moisture staining, and any visible anomalies. Each image is labelled by elevation and floor level so it maps directly to your assessment framework. For multi-storey buildings, this eliminates the need for scaffolding or elevated work platforms to conduct an initial visual survey.

Roof Inspections

Roof inspections via drone cover membrane condition, flashing details, penetration seals, ponding, debris accumulation, and drainage paths. We capture the full roof area systematically, ensuring nothing is missed in areas that are difficult or unsafe to access on foot. The resulting photo register gives you a clear picture of roof condition without needing to mobilise personnel to height.

Waterproofing Inspections

For waterproofing-specific inspections, we document membrane condition, termination details, upturns, drainage adequacy, and any visible breaches. Our documentation is formatted to support assessments against AS 4654 and AS 3740. This is particularly useful for engineering consultants conducting waterproofing audits or investigating active leaks. See our dedicated waterproofing documentation page for more detail on this service.

How It Works

1

Book

Tell us what you need documented and when. We confirm availability and scope, usually within the same business day. If you need specific areas of focus, we build that into the flight plan.

2

Fly

We arrive on site with commercial drone equipment and conduct a systematic inspection of the specified areas. All flights are conducted under CASA regulations by an accredited operator (ARN 1300399). Typical site time is one to three hours depending on building size and scope.

3

Document

After the flight, we process all captured imagery into formatted documentation. Every image is indexed, labelled by location, and annotated where relevant. Defects are categorised and scheduled. This is not automated processing. It is done by a person who understands building inspection documentation.

4

Deliver

You receive your completed photo register and defect schedule the same day as the inspection. Documentation is formatted for your workflow, whether that means PDF, Excel, or both. Ready to drop into your consultant report or strata submission.

Benefits Over Traditional Inspection Methods

Traditional building inspections for facades and roofs typically require scaffolding, rope access, or elevated work platforms. These methods are effective but come with significant cost, lead time, and safety overhead. Drone inspections offer a practical alternative for the visual documentation component of an inspection program.

No Scaffolding Required

Scaffolding hire for a multi-storey facade inspection can cost tens of thousands of dollars and take days to erect. A drone inspection captures the same visual data in a fraction of the time and cost. For initial assessments or periodic monitoring, scaffolding is often unnecessary when drone documentation is available.

No Rope Access Required

Rope access teams are skilled and effective, but mobilising them for a visual survey adds cost and complexity. Drone inspections provide high-resolution imagery of the same areas without putting anyone at height. If physical access is later required for testing or remediation, the drone documentation helps target exactly where it is needed.

Same-Day Delivery

With traditional methods, documentation often arrives days or weeks after the site visit. RKOps delivers formatted photo registers and defect schedules the same day as the inspection. This means faster turnaround on your reports and less time waiting for information.

Safer Site Operations

Drone inspections reduce the need for working at height during the visual documentation phase. Fewer people on elevated platforms, fewer hours at height, and less disruption to building occupants. The inspection can often proceed without residents or tenants being affected.

Accreditation and Insurance

RKOps is a CASA accredited RPA (Remotely Piloted Aircraft) operator. Our accreditation reference number is ARN 1300399. All drone operations are conducted in compliance with CASA regulations, including Part 101 requirements for commercial drone operations.

We carry $17.5 million in public liability insurance through Lloyd's of London via Coverdrone, specifically covering commercial drone operations. This level of cover is typically required by site managers, builders, and strata corporations before any drone operations can commence on their property.

If your project requires specific insurance documentation or a SWMS (Safe Work Method Statement) for drone operations, we can provide these ahead of the inspection.

Who Uses This Service

Our drone building inspection service is used by engineering consultants conducting facade or roof assessments, builders managing defects liability periods, strata managers overseeing building maintenance programs, and legal teams requiring visual evidence for NCAT or tribunal proceedings.

We work alongside your process. We document what we see. You make the calls. The documentation we provide is designed to support your professional judgment, not replace it.
